Abstract
Zone Routing Protocol (ZRP) is a hybrid type protocol that creates a zone having radius ρ hops for each node present in the network and employs the use of both proactive and reactive routing techniques. It works by using IARP, IERP, BRP and NDP. Now, focusing our view on energy management, the nodes in the network have a restricted battery power for its functioning. Hence, efficient energy management is required. Energy management deals with efficiently utilizing and managing energy resources such as controlled usage of the battery so as to increase the network lifetime. In this paper, ZRPA (Zone Routing Protocol with Anycast) has been proposed which introduces the use of anycast addressing scheme with ZRP to decrease the energy consumption in the network along with improving other network parameters. The Performance of ZRPA in comparison with ZRP has been evaluated in different scenarios consisting of varying no. of nodes using results in terms of various performance metrics like Packet Delivery Ratio (PDR), Avg. Throughput, Avg. End to End Delay and Total Energy Consumed.
