Abstract
Online watermarking of digital images is
successful in avoiding offline attacks. The critical need of
real time watermarking is speed and it can be achieved by
using a hardware which is dedicated for this very purpose
only. The proposed research work presents VLSI
architecture for embedding a binary watermark image into
an 8-bit gray scale image. The proposed watermarking
algorithm uses integer DCT and is robust to various image
processing attacks. The watermark is retrieved using the
same hardware. The performance of the algorithm is
verified using MATLAB by the improved values of MSE,
PSNR, NC and TAF. The hardware efficiency of the
algorithm is judged and verified in terms of device
utilization parameters and delay. The proposed VLSI
architecture is implemented on Spartan 3E FPGA and
simulated using XILINX ISE9.1.
