Regression analysis on the principal dimensional data collected from 387 different tug boats resulted in the 42 reliable equations for the design of tugboats. These regression equations published here are based on main engine power of existing tugboats. Microsoft EXCEL software is used for the numerous regression analysis from which these equations were selected basing on their Coefficient of regression values R2 being greater than 0.85. An example of the application of these equations for the prediction of the main dimensions of a projected tugboat is demonstrated in this work for the design of a new tugboat of main engine power of 2720hp. This method can be used to predict the size of a new or used tugboat for purchase by porspective vessel owner.
